Application & Requirements
The application and requirements for Fall 2027 will be available in late Fall. Below are the requirements for Fall 2026 applicants. If you wish to be informed when the application for Fall 2027 applicants becomes available, please tell us here.

*Though Caltech does not require a deposit, all admitted 3/2 students must reply to our offer of admission by June 1.
Admission to the 3/2 program is not guaranteed for all applicants; admissions decisions will be made by the Caltech Faculty Upperclass Admissions Committee.
Requirements for all 3/2 Program applicants
The following is a list of materials required for a complete application for 3/2 Program admission. If your application is missing any one of these components, it will be incomplete.
- Application
- Obtain letters of recommendation from your college's 3/2 liaison and from a mathematics, science, or engineering faculty member.
- Applicants sometimes request an additional recommendation letter that provides a significantly different evaluation than the other two letters. If you have an additional recommendation letter from a coach, mentor, employer, etc., we welcome the submission. Please be sure the letter includes your full name and date of birth. The additional recommender may email the letter directly to our office at [email protected].
- Official transcript from our 3/2 partner college.
- Applicants must have attended the partner college for all three years of their undergraduate career.
- Academic preparation requirements:
- One year of physics (two years recommended).
- One year of mathematics (including multivariable calculus and differential equations; two years recommended).
- One year of chemistry.
Additional requirements for international applicants:
Financial aid is not available for international transfer and 3/2 applicants. International citizens who apply and are offered transfer admission or admission through the 3/2 program should expect to cover the full cost of attendance to Caltech without any assistance from the Institute.
International transfer and 3/2 students will be required to agree to the policies outlined in the International Financial Aid Statement of Intent.
